‘Red, White & Royal Blue’ 2: Here’s Everything We Know So Far

If you’re currently streaming August Moon and lusting after Nicholas Galitzine’s dreamy Hayes Campbell after devouring the Anne Hathaway-led, impossibly sugary, feather-light wafer that is The Idea of You, we have good news. The former Prince Charming will be back on screens before you know it, to embody another swoon-worthy royal: the British Prince Henry, in a sequel to the frothy Amazon hit Red, White & Royal Blue. Joining him? Taylor Zakhar Perez, naturally, in the part of Alex Claremont-Diaz, his boyfriend and the first son of the United States.

The announcement came on May 9, at a post-screening Q&A for the film in Los Angeles attended by Galitzine, Perez, the first film’s director Matthew López, and Casey McQuiston, the author of the bestseller on which it’s based, as they all celebrated the success of the original movie and continued its campaign for an Emmy nomination.

“These two, over the last few months, have been on a lot of red carpets, and the thing that they keep getting asked is, ‘Are we getting a sequel?’” Entertainment Weekly’s Gerrad Hall told the audience at the event, nodding to Galitzine and Perez. “And they’re like, ‘It’s not up to us.’ It’s up to these other people. So I’m going to ask the other people. Matthew, is there going to be a sequel and are you working on anything?” In a video captured by the publication, López can be seen grinning. “Yes, there’s going to be a sequel to the movie.” Cue literal screams of joy. Then, a new promotional image appeared on the big screen above the panel, showing a messy wedding cake next to the words, ‘Fancy another slice?’” Who wouldn’t?

Plot details are, of course, being kept under wraps, though we do know that López is penning the script alongside McQuiston, meaning the follow-up should—fingers crossed—do justice to its predecessor. Keep your eyes peeled for more casting news (we’re looking at you, Uma Thurman) and let the speculation over the next stage of Henry and Alex’s relationship begin. Could a royal wedding be on the cards? Well, Galitzine did refer to Thurman as his “mother-in-law” on the Met Gala red carpet earlier this week, so we’ve got our fingers crossed.
