Anine Bing Celebrated Her Debut Album and Her Brand’s Summer Collection With a Poolside Performance

Before there was Anine Bing, the founder of a fashion label, there was Anine Bing the musician, having led a band 15 years ago. When the Danish designer launched the eponymous brand alongside her husband out of their Silverlake garage in 2012, it snowballed into something bigger than they’d expected, and thus, the recording studio took a back seat. Now, having just launched her debut solo album, “Therapy,” Bing is revisiting her creative roots and celebrated the event with her first-ever live performance on Thursday evening.

“I was so nervous all day, but it felt good,” Bing told Vogue after performing songs such as “Addicted” and “Beautiful Girl” from the new record. The designer and musician said this felt like the right time to revisit the craft. “I was doing therapy, and it made me realize how much I miss music, so each song is something I went through in a therapy session.”

The private show took place poolside at the Chateau Marmont just after sunset, the intimate outdoor space lit softly by the moonlight and the dozens of candles lining the perimeter of the water. Following Bing’s performance, Swedish singers Winona Oak and Lisa Ekdahl treated the crowd to a few songs as well.

Bing’s album release celebration came alongside the launch of the Anine Bing summer collection, the campaign for which features the brand’s global face, Kate Moss. “The brand has always been very much inspired by rock and roll,” Bing says. Styles in the collection include leather shorts and a pocketed denim top adorned with gold buttons. “When I’m designing, it’s very much effortless, just like when I’m writing songs.”

Lite bites were enjoyed through the evening—grilled cheese sandwiches, sliders and French fries among them—while two bars served up champagne and martinis. Then, dispersing back into conversation after the shows, guests weren’t sent home without a few souvenirs, including their own “Therapy” record and concert tees.
