The Bride Wore Four Different Dresses Designed by Her Mother-in-Law for Her San Miguel de Allende Wedding

Mariel wore Silvia Tcherassi throughout. For their welcome party at the historic art school Instituto Allende, she opted for a custom floor-length white dress paired with custom Gia Borghini gold boots embroidered with their wedding date. (The stylish yet sensible footwear came in handy, as the night soon turned into a dance party DJed by Mauricio himself.) The next day, she wore a pink sequin column dress and an Olympia Le Tan clutch for a cocktail party at Rosewood San Miguel de Allende.

On Saturday, Mariel walked down the aisle in a grand backless halter dress with floral appliques at Hacienda Luna Escondida. “I loved my wedding dress almost as much as I loved the process of its creation. Silvia showed me beautiful haute couture swatches that I fell in love with immediately and once the fabric arrived, she began to work on it,” Mariel says. “Throughout the whole process, she stressed the fact that the dress had to look good from every angle, which I of course appreciated so much. She studied the images of where the wedding would be and took everything from lighting to the natural landscape into account when designing my dress.” Mauricio waited for her at the altar in a Dior suit and gold cufflinks that once belonged to his grandfather.

The couple describes becoming “overcome with emotion” during the ceremony—especially while exchanging rings, which were engraved with their names and the date of their wedding.

Afterwards, guests headed into an “enchanted forest” reception. “If you looked up, the ceiling was illuminated with constellations and the lighting on the trees was meant to look like fireflies—it was something out of a fairy tale,” says Mariel. As everyone sat at tables adorned with roses, hydrangeas, and yellow orchids, the couple had their first dance to Frankie Valli’s “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You.”

The night hit a pinnacle when Mariel surprised Mauricio with a performance by Chico & The Gypsies. “We will never forget when they played ‘Volare’ and the entire wedding was dancing and singing along,” says Mariel. The choice was perfect given that both of our parents love the band and we grew up listening to this soundtrack because of them.” As the night grew later and the dancing wilder, the bride changed into a mini dress and Nike x Sacai sneakers adorned with Silvia’s couture fabrics.

The couple says that they are “still on cloud nine” after their wedding. “We are overcome with gratitude for our friends, family and of course, each other. We could not have asked for a better start to our marriage,” says Mauricio.
