The Best Dressed Stars of the Week Put Twists on the Classics

The fashion classics are classics for a reason: A good suit, sweater, or little black dress will never go out of style. That said, even the most timeless pieces deserve an update every now and then. This week, the best dressed stars on the red carpet were those who put a contemporary twist on enduring wardrobe staples, resulting in looks that made a statement without feeling too trendy.

Holiday style is everywhere right now, and many of the week’s standout dressers put their stamp on glitzy party wear. For instance, while Beyoncé rocked Prada’s silver metallic hotpants, at the premiere of Anyone But You in New York City, Sydney Sweeney slipped into Miu Miu’s bejeweled sheer gown, revealing briefs underneath. Super cozy dressing was also elevated this week: Tracee Ellis Ross looked to Loewe’s oversized sweater without arm holes (a wearable blanket, essentially), and Nicki Minaj stepped out in Dolce & Gabbana’s golden foil coat—a head-turning way to keep warm.

If suiting is more your vibe, there were some fashion-forward approaches to that, too. Carey Mulligan’s black Ferragamo look at a Jimmy Kimmel Live taping felt super updated: Her two-piece ensemble eschewed a blazer in favor of a caped tuxedo jacket without sleeves. At a screening of Finestkind in Hollywood, Jenna Ortega’s corseted Adeam blazer dress—in an all-over white lace—felt unexpected in the best way, right down to the short silhouette and sky-high platforms.
