Be warned: Going silver this is not a low-maintenance endeavor. “If you’re wanting to go silver, you have to be ready for a commitment,” says colorist and co-owner of IGK Salon Olivia Casanova. “Whether [you’re] brunette, black, or blonde, you have to lift the hair to nearly white in order to achieve this look.”
Depending on how dark your hair is naturally, she says it might take multiple sessions to achieve the silver shade that you want. She adds that it also requires going in every four weeks for upkeep on top of a good at-home regimen. Hair care includes avoiding hot water when washing and using a purple-pigmented shampoo (she loves Shu Uemura’s Anti-Brass Purple Shampoo) or other products that will keep your silver hair vibrant and not brassy.
