So when is it actually flu season? You can catch the flu anytime, but the virus circulates more during fall and winter, with flu activity peaks between December and February. As a nurse who has taken care of patients with influenza in the hospital, I've seen how the virus can cause serious health complications. If you haven't already, there's still time to book your flu shot to protect you and your loved ones.

In case you do get the flu, antiviral medications are available with a prescription. These usually have to be taken within one to two days after symptoms begin to get the best results. If you're at high risk for severe illness and have flu symptoms, it's recommended that you receive prompt treatment with antivirals. However, if you generally have good health, the flu can usually be managed with simple strategies such as plenty of rest, fluids, and symptom management.
