Millie Bobby Brown Is Much More Dragon Than Damsel

Millie Bobby Brown is the latest in a long line of stars to embrace method dressing. But this time, instead of leaning into her Damsel character, Elodie, who is betrayed by her betrothed, she is embracing the film’s fire-breathing dragon.

For the premiere, Brown turned to Nicolas Ghesquière to outfit her in a custom Louis Vuitton dress, beaded to look like the scaly beast. “The dress symbolizes dragon scales which is kind of what I was wanting to go for,” she says. “I feel like the whole film [Elodie is] a victim, and to be able to turn up to my premiere and be the dragon is pretty cool.”

Brown finds a sense of ritual in the hair and makeup chair. As someone who’s spent so many of her most formative years playing other people, it’s a place where she can be her truest self. “Many months of the year, I was playing other people, and it’s been hard for me to find myself” she says. “Being in hair and makeup I want to be the most myself and give myself that grace to have fun and to enjoy it.”

Even though it’s her night, Brown turns the tables, playing interviewer to her fiancé, Jake Bongiovi. “What do you like most about my look?” she asks him from the glam chair. “Right now I like how much heart and soul has gone into it from the wonderful Pete and Buster,” he says, shouting out her glam team. Brown then puts Bongiovi on room service duty, but not without ribbing him. “What’re you going to order? Quesadilla?” she asks. “No, I’ll probably have something more sophisticated,” he says… before ordering a quesadilla.

Together they take a glam break to eat—her pasta and his quesadilla—and watch Love Is Blind before putting on the looks’s finishing touches. “Am I a damsel in this dress?” she asks before heading off.
