The U.S. Department of Defense said Thursday it awarded a contract worth as much as $4.1B to Lockheed Martin (NYSE:LMT) to continue the development of its battle command system.
The DoD said Lockheed (LMT) will develop, test, deliver and help operate updates and new capabilities for the Command and Control, Battle Management and Communications system, or C2BMC, for the Missile Defense Agency.
C2BMC is responsible for integrating individual Ballistic Missile Defense System components to create a global, networked, and layered missile defense apparatus capable of identifying, tracking and intercepting ballistic missile threats in all phases of flight, according to the Missile Defense Advocacy Alliance.
The ordering period of the contract is from May 1, 2024 through April 30, 2029, with an option to extend through the end of April 2034, the DoD said.
