The eldest sister of former President Trump, Maryanne Trump Barry, has died at 86, according to multiple reports.
Multiple news outlets reported Monday that Barry died at her Upper East Side home in Manhattan, according to people familiar with the matter.
ABC News, citing sources, said that she was discovered in her apartment at about 4 a.m. on Monday when emergency crews responded to a call for someone in cardiac arrest.
Barry, an appellate lawyer, was first appointed as a federal judge in New Jersey by former President Ronald Reagan in 1983. She was then appointed to service on the U.S. Court of Appeals in New Jersey by former President Bill Clinton in 1999.
She retired from the bench in 2019 amid allegations of tax evasion. The court announced at the time that it was investigating a tax scheme, first reported by The New York Times, in which Barry and her family allegedly accumulated millions of dollars in additional wealth from their father’s real estate empire by participating in “dubious” tax strategies in the 1990s.
Barry and the former president appeared to have had a tense relationship. In audio recordings reported in 2020, Barry said her brother “has no principles” in audio obtained by The Washington Post.
Three of Trump’s four siblings have died. Robert Trump, Trump’s younger brother, died in 2020 at 71, and Fred Trump Jr. died in 1981 at 42.
