The stars are aligning for Nicola and Brooklyn Peltz Beckham this year: the couple is celebrating their two-year wedding anniversary on April 9, the day after the solar eclipse. If you’re up on the astrology, then you’ll know the solar eclipse can signal a new chapter of transformation, self-exploration, and radical growth. In other words, the vibes are high.
During an interview on April 8, Nicola tells PS she doesn’t actually know her anniversary plans because Brooklyn has some sort of surprise in store (but more on that later). For the solar eclipse, however, the actor and “Lola” director is celebrating with her other love: Snapple. No, for real — she really loves Snapple, calling it her longtime “drink of choice.”
“Genuinely, I am such a fan,” Nicola says during an eclipse-viewing event in New York City celebrating the new Snapple Elements Sun flavor. “I’m not just saying this; my entire family, my in-laws, they all know I love the Zero Sugar Peach Tea so much. They have it in Brooklyn’s room when we go visit, and it’s just so sweet of them to do that.”
Nicola will mix the brand’s lemon and peach teas for a little mocktail, but when she’s in the mood for stiffer drink, she’ll opt for a vodka Snapple. In fact, Brooklyn recently told Grazia that’s what Nicola and her mother-in-law Victoria Beckham drink during Sunday family gatherings. “I don’t cook but I can make a drink,” she says.
Ahead, Nicola shares her advice for newlyweds, talks favorite tattoos, and drops the to-go drink Brooklyn will whip up for her.
POPSUGAR: Brooklyn recently said that you and Victoria enjoy a vodka Snapple during Sunday roasts. I need to know everything. Did you introduce that cocktail to the family?
Nicola Peltz Beckham: Oh yes, this is a very special cocktail. This is mine. I created this masterpiece. The only time Brooklyn and I go out in LA is to go to Barney’s Beanery, and [before we go out] Brooklyn will take the Peach Snapple, empty half out and make it all fancy: he puts the lime juice in and then he’ll do the vodka. And I’ll bring the Snapples with me, like a weirdo, to Barney’s. He knows that’s what I’ll drink, so he packs that for me, which is so sweet.
PS: Any complaints from the Barney’s bartenders?
NPB: No, we hide it. It’s an “in my purse,” kind of thing.
PS: Your two-year wedding anniversary is tomorrow — congratulations. How will you two be celebrating?
NPB: Aw, thank you so much, first of all. Brooklyn said that he planned a surprise for me, so I will keep you guys updated and let you know what the surprise is. I don’t know what it is yet, but I’m very excited. I’ll tell you if it was all it’s cracked up to be. I honestly cannot believe I’ve been married for two years. I feel like that is a wild thing to say. It’s so crazy that was two years ago.
PS: Have you gotten him a gift yet?
NPB: I did get him a little something — just a little sentimental gift.
PS: What advice do you have for newlyweds?
NPB: I love when people ask me this because I feel like I should be asking for everyone else’s advice. I’m new to the game, but I truly do think communication is key. That’s a sentence we hear all the time, but it just changes everything. Whether that’s a friend, husband, parent, sibling, I just think you should always, always, always say how you truly feel, or what’s on your mind and what’s in your heart. Then everything’s out on the table and then you can fix it, if you’re upset about something. I think just communicating is just the best way to go about everything.
PS: What’s your top don’t for newlyweds?
NPB: Probably don’t take things so seriously. I grew up with six brothers and a sister and I was teased my entire life, so that’s just like the love language of my family. I learned to take a joke.
PS: Snapple is known for its Real Facts on the inside of the cap, so inspired by that, I would love to a do a rapid-fire round of lesser-known facts about you. First up: what did you want to be when you were a kid?
NPB: My first love was ice hockey. That’s kind of what my parents really wanted me to be, an ice hockey player. Then when I started drama in school when I was 11, I was like, Oh, this is what I wanna do.
My parents still want me to be in ice hockey. I did it when I was 8 to 14, and that’s the only sport I can actually play. It’s so odd. It’s not like you can just go, do you wanna go ice skating with me? I can’t just go in the yard and kick a soccer ball. I have no talent there.
PS: What’s your biggest pet peeve?
NPB: My biggest pet peeve is lying — big, small, just be honest. Also, when your socks bunch up in your shoes. That’s a less serious one.
PS: Favorite tattoo of yours?
NPB: I don’t have that many tattoos. I have “family first” in Yiddish. Then I have Brooklyn’s name, and Lola James, which is the original title of my film. I got that a few years back. I have “angel” on my arm, matching with Selena [Gomez]. I love that one so much. I think that’s it, but I kind of want another one. I love them all.
PS: Favorite tattoo of Brooklyn’s?
NPB: Can you imagine if I’m like, the one of my face on his arm?
PS: I mean, you kind of have to.
NPB: Honestly, I have a few. He has a little bunny on his hand for my [grandmother] Naunni. Then he has my mom’s rosary tattooed on his arm, which is so beautiful and meaningful. He has quotes from Gina, my other grandma. One day he went and surprised, and came back with all these beautiful quotes. I think it’s so beautiful that he decides to do that on his own. It means so much to me.
PS: I did want to touch on your directorial debut. That’s such an accomplishment. Is that where you see your career going? Would you like to write and direct more?
NPB: I would love to write and direct in the future, absolutely. Acting is definitely my main love, but I would absolutely love to do that.
PS: And I imagine Brooklyn won’t be in the next one given some of the feedback you’ve given about his cameo?
NPB: God, no. I will say that if you look very closely, Brooklyn is in it twice. But you gotta look really closely. No speaking lines, but he is in there.
