Matthew Perry’s ‘Friends’ Castmates Share Their Memories of the Late Actor

A few weeks have elapsed since the death of actor and addiction and recovery advocate Matthew Perry, at the age of 54, but still feels shocking. While many of us who grew up laughing at Chandler Bing’s wisecracks in our living rooms are feeling only the vicarious loss, some of Perry’s friends and coworkers are taking to social media to commemorate Perry’s life. “In the last couple weeks, I’ve been pouring over our texts to one another. Laughing and crying then laughing again. I’ll keep them forever and ever,” wrote Jennifer Aniston on Instagram:

Aniston wasn’t the only Friends alum to offer her memories of Perry. Matt LeBlanc posted a tribute on Tuesday that read, in part: “The times we had together are honestly among the favorite times of my life. It was an honor to share the stage with you and to call you my friend.” David Schwimmer joined Aniston and LeBlanc in reflecting on Perry’s legacy on Wednesday, writing: “You had heart. Which you were generous with, and shared with us, so we could create a family out of six strangers.”

Courteney Cox, who played Perry’s love interest (and eventual wife) for years on Friends, spoke to the origins of the fan-favorite pairing of Monica and Chandler in her post, writing: “To give a little backstory, Chandler and Monica were supposed to have a one-night fling in London. But because of the audience’s reaction, it became the beginning of their love story.”

While it’s hard to imagine as beloved an onscreen fixture as Perry truly being gone, his former castmates’ posts reaffirm just how many lives he touched.
