Police recover body from Genesee River as search continues for missing boy, man

Emergency responders last week pulled the body of a man from the Genesee River near Ford Street.

The man was recovered roughly 100 yards north of the Ford Street bridge, near downtown Rochester on Friday afternoon, said Capt. Greg Bello of the Rochester Police Department. His body was removed by RPD's scuba team and Rochester firefighters and taken to the Monroe County Medical Examiner's Office. Bello said that the cause of his death was not determined.

“There does not appear to be any criminality involved,” Bello said in a news release.

The man's body was recovered at a time that first responders continue to look for two others elsewhere in the Genesee River.

Still missing are Zy'Jae St. Pierre, a five-year-old Rochester boy who fell into the river from the Andrews Street bridge on June 1. Authorities have centered their search in the High Falls area in Rochester, and have searched the basin of the waterfalls much of last week, even slowing the falls to a near standstill so first responders could better search the water and falls basin for the boy's body.

They are also looking for Jared Oswald, 50, of Rochester, who was last seen on May 19 at Turning Point Park near the Genesee River. Authorities believe he left a house on nearby Harding Road in Charlotte that same morning.
