Trump says Israel agreed to terms for 60-day ceasefire in Gaza, warns Hamas to take deal

President Trump said on Tuesday evening that Israel has agreed to the “necessary conditions” to “finalize” a 60-day ceasefire in the war-torn Gaza Strip and pushed the Palestinian militant group Hamas to take the deal, warning that it will “not get better.”

“My Representatives had a long and productive meeting with the Israelis today on Gaza. Israel has agreed to the necessary conditions to finalize the 60 Day CEASEFIRE, during which time we will work with all parties to end the War,” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social.

“The Qataris and Egyptians, who have worked very hard to help bring Peace, will deliver this final proposal,” the president added. “I hope, for the good of the Middle East, that Hamas takes this Deal, because it will not get better — IT WILL ONLY GET WORSE.”

It is not immediately clear if Hamas, designated as a terrorist organization by the U.S. government, will accept the terms of the deal.

The announcement comes as Trump is set to meet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu next week at the White House, where the two leaders are slated to discuss trade, the aftermath of the Israel-Iran conflict and the Israel-Hamas war.

“He’s coming here. We’re going to talk about a lot of things. We’re going to talk about the great success we had … in Iran, we had an incredible success,” Trump said Tuesday morning. “We’re also going to talk about Gaza.”

Trump has pushed both Israel and Hamas to reach a ceasefire and the release of hostages, developments that would help lead to an end in the war in Gaza.

“MAKE THE DEAL IN GAZA,” Trump wrote on Truth Social on Sunday. “GET THE HOSTAGES BACK!!! DJT.”

Previous attempts to secure a ceasefire between the two sides have failed. The administration’s Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff sent over a proposal, greenlighted by Israel, in late May that would have Hamas exchange 10 living Israeli hostages along with 18 bodies from Gaza for a two-month truce. Israel would, in return, free more than 1,000 Palestinian detainees. Hamas offered amendments, with Witkoff stating the militant group’s response was “totally unacceptable.”

Qatari officials sent over a new proposal to both Israel and Hamas on Tuesday, supported by the Trump administration, according to multiple outlets. The same day, Israeli Minister for Strategic Affairs Ron Dermer met with Trump administration officials in Washington, a U.S. official briefed on the matter told The Hill on Tuesday.
