This Texas City Has the Most Free Things to Do in the U.S., According to a New Report

Going on vacation can cost a pretty penny. According to Budget Your Trip, an average one-week trip for two in the United States costs an average of $3,986. There are, however, a few easy ways to save, including hunting down free activities in your intended destination. However, if you really want to pack in a lot of fun for absolutely nothing, then you should make your way to this particular Texas town.

Saving Spot released its list of the Best Destinations in the World for Free Activities list, which ranked spots around the globe based on the publicly available traveler reviews for free attractions and specifically searched for tourism destinations with not just the highest number of free things to do but also the best quality free attractions. After crunching the numbers, the team named San Antonio the best destination in the world for highly rated free tourist attractions.

“San Antonio tops our ranking for highly rated free tourist attractions, with almost 90 percent of its free attractions receiving 4.5 stars and above,” the findings revealed. “San Antonio is best known as the site of The Alamo, an 18th-century Spanish mission now serving as a museum focusing on the 1836 battle for Texan independence. Entrance to The Alamo is free, as it is at other major tourist sites around San Antonio.”

Other free tourist attractions in the city include San Antonio Missions National Historical Park, Japanese Tea Garden, Brackenridge Park, and San Fernando Cathedral, making it possible to spend a long weekend in the city without spending a dime on activities.

San Antonio is joined atop the list of the best highly rated free tourist attraction destinations by Cleveland in second, followed by Quebec City, Canada; St. Louis, Missouri; Hobart, Australia; Ayia Napa, Cyprus; Miami Beach, Florida; Austin; Baltimore; and Tasmania, Australia, rounding out the top 10.
