This Luxury Expedition Cruise Line Debuts 4 New Greenland Cruises — the First-ever Itineraries With Roundtrip Flights From New York
Greenland is going to be the place to be this summer. Multiple airlines are launching nonstop routes to Nuuk, Greenland's capital, in June, making it easier than ever to travel to the destination. (Greenland is one of 50 destinations Travel + Leisure spotlighted for where to go in 2025.)
Now, HX (formerly known as Hurtigruten Expeditions), is taking full advantage of that airlift, offering a lineup of Greenland cruises with all-inclusive fares that cover nonstop flights from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) in New Jersey to Nuuk. (EWR is one of three New York City airports.)
“Greenland is at a pivotal moment in its tourism journey, on the brink of mindfully expanding its offerings while maintaining its cultural roots. This evolution is being led by the locals, who are ensuring that tourism grows in harmony with both the land and its people,” HX CEO Gebhard Rainer told T+L. “Greenland offers not only pristine Arctic landscapes but also a deep cultural identity, rich in tradition, storytelling, and community. It's a place largely untouched by mass tourism, providing travelers a rare opportunity to experience landscapes and cultures that remain authentically preserved.”
HX's flight-inclusive Greenland programming spans from 12-day trips to 26-day adventures, each developed in conjunction with Greenlandic communities. Guests will sail aboard the MS Fridtjof Nansen, a 500-passenger hybrid-powered ship that's among the most sustainable cruise ships in the world.
Here's a breakdown of the itineraries.
Icy Giants of Disko Bay
Departure on June 21, 2025; from $14,423 per person
This 12-day iceberg-heavy expedition visits Disko Bay, the UNESCO-designated Ilulissat Icefjord, and Inuit settlements along Greenland's west coast.
Mythical Lands of the North
Departures on July 1 and 15, 2025; from $14,762 per person
Spanning 16 days, this itinerary takes travelers to Greenland's High Arctic, where they'll have a chance to see wildlife like polar bears, walruses, and elusive narwhals, if you're lucky.
Farthest North to Thule and Kane Basin
Departure on July 29, 2025; from $17,806 per person
As its name suggests, this 20-day journey will go farther north than any other HX trip has been before, traveling to Ultima Thule and Kane Basin, as well as isolated Greenlandic communities.
Northwest Passage — Through the Arctic Labyrinth
Departure on August 17, 2025: from $26,702 per person
Guests will traverse the famous Northwest Passage on this 26-day expedition from Nuuk to Nome, Alaska, visiting some of the most remote destinations in the Arctic.
Joining each of these expeditions is Aleqatsiaq Peary, an Inuk storyteller, musician, and hunter (and the great-great-great-grandson of Arctic explorer Robert Peary). “If you’ve read about Arctic explorers, these itineraries offer a chance to experience it for yourself,” Peary said in a release provided T+L. “To see what they saw and feel what it was like to journey to the far north aboard their ships.”
“HX offers authentic experiences developed by locals, ensuring that travelers engage with Greenland’s heritage. Our commitment to the community is reflected through HX’s support of local projects and charities, while our product strategy is managed by Greenlanders, ensuring enriching and sustainable itineraries,” Rainer told T+L. “Whether it’s discovering the icy giants of Disko Bay or venturing into the farthest northern reaches of Thule, Greenland offers something extraordinary for those looking to discover one of the world’s last truly wild places.”
