This Is the Best New U.S. Restaurant of 2024, According to Yelp
We've all got our favorite spots, our go-to recommendations, and our must-dine destinations in cities across the world. But now, Yelp wants you to add one more to your list.
On Dec. 3, Yelp unveiled its list of the 25 Best New Restaurants of 2024. The team created the list by identifying “full-service businesses in the restaurant category that opened after January 1, 2023,” then ranked those spots using several factors, including the “total volume and ratings of reviews between January 1, 2023, and September 1, 2024.” The team also consulted with Yelp Trend Expert Tara Lewis to “zero in on what spots Yelpers were loving.”
After all that work, Yelp named Mēdüzā Mediterrania in New York City its No. 1 new spot.
“Celebrity guests like Taylor Swift and Cardi B — and videos all over TikTok — may have elevated this uber-trendy restaurant to a viral sensation. But it’s the boho-chic interior, over-the-top food presentations, and immersive experience that Yelpers prize the most, making Mēdüzā Mediterrania our No. 1 Best New Restaurant of the year,” Yelp shared in its list. “Three dining rooms, including a VIP mezzanine and a glass-enclosed atrium, are decked out in lush foliage and ‘flowy' woodwork. Patrons come dressed to impress (there’s a strict dress code) for see-and-be-seen dinners, when there’s live music or a house DJ playing tunes all night.”
It noted that the restaurant's cocktails are a must-order thanks to their “theatrical flair,” specifically calling out the Fig & Honey with baklava-infused whiskey as one of the wildest, which Yelp added “arrives inside a smoke-filled windowpane box.”
As for food, the restaurant highlights Mediterranean cuisine, including a focus on fresh veggies like a shaved baby artichoke salad and the ever-popular Greek salad. There's also a massive seafood tower available, and heartier plates like the Wagyu Kafta with tomatoes, roasted garlic, basil, and shaved parmesan.
“Reservations are ‘highly encouraged' to get into what one Yelper calls the NYC spot ‘where you need to be,'” Yelp added.
Other top spots to make the list include Noko Nashville in Nashville in the No. 2 spot, followed by Meesh Meesh in Louisville, Kentucky, Kinme Omakase in San Diego, and Burnin’ Shell in Los Angeles, rounding out the top five.
