This Is The Best Gingerbread Cookie Cutter On Amazon

There’s nothing quite as cozy and festive as making (and decorating!) gingerbread people around the holidays—but as it turns out, all gingerbread cookie cutters are not made equal. As someone who has been burned too many times by cheap, flimsy cookie cutters that result in only vaguely humanoid blobs, I decided it was time to find the best gingerbread cookie cutter on Amazon. Why Amazon? Well, it’s the holiday season; I’m too busy to go to the store and too impatient to wait five to seven days for shipping.

I bought five of the best-selling gingerbread cookie cutters and decided to put them to the test. Three of the sets featured only gingerbread people, while two of them had a gingerbread person as well as other seasonal shapes like Christmas trees and snowflakes. To keep things as fair as possible, I only included the results from the gingerbread people in my ranking, but I did test the other shapes as well.

As a control, I used Gourmet’s Best Gingerbread Cookie recipe. It’s worth noting that this is now my favorite gingerbread cookie recipe, and you’ll have to try very hard to convince me to make another. This one comes together in less than 20 minutes and doesn’t require a stand mixer or an overnight chill: all good things for an impulsive holiday baking session.

To be honest, I wasn’t expecting there to be such a clear winner, but one of these cookie cutter sets performed so much better than the rest, it’s the only one we really need to talk about.

The Etersion Gingerbread Cookie Cutters had the sturdiest design, complete with colorful ergonomic grips that make these especially good if you’re baking with the very young and/or the very old. The grips made it easy to apply even pressure when cutting out dough, and they were incredibly comfortable to hold. The cutting edge was sharp, and produced a clearly-defined shape that transferred easily from my work surface to my baking sheet. And when they came out of the oven, the cookies held their shape nicely.

Crucially, this set comes with five different sizes of gingerbread person. The largest measures 4.85×3.82″, which is a great size for little kids who are still honing their piping skills to decorate. The smallest cookie cutter in the set has a 1.18″ diameter and produces gingerbread cookies so tiny adorable they will make you want to cry. There are three sizes in between, all of which produce clean-cut cookies that are clearly recognizable as gingerbread people.

My one qualm about the Etersion set is that the largest cookie cutter has a slightly different shape than the four smaller ones: it’s a little more rounded, so the resulting cookie has a cartoonish look. But this is really splitting hairs. If you’re buying a set of gingerbread cookie cutters from Amazon, this is the one to get.

If you want more variety, the brand also makes a nine-piece variety set that comes with one gingerbread person as well as other shapes like a Christmas tree, a bell, and a snowflake. They have the same ergonomic holders, and most of the cookie cutters are around 3×2″.

The Best Holidays Sprinkles

If you’re going to make gingerbread cookies for Christmas, you probably also want some cute holiday sprinkles. Well, I tested a few of those too.

As someone who takes every opportunity to eat pure sugar, I do actually care about how my sprinkles taste.
