Now that the SAG-AFTRA strikes are over, and Hollywood has officially made a return to the red carpets, stars have wasted no time delivering some exciting fashion moments. Whether it was at this week’s GQ Men of the Year awards in London, Variety’s Power of Women event in Los Angeles, or the National Book Awards in New York City, A-listers took fashion risks that commanded attention—choosing head-turning frocks over your standard evening gown or classic LBD.
Perhaps the week’s boldest ensemble, for instance, came from Hunter Schafer at the New York City premiere of The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. The star chose a colorful Marni dress that was made of upcycled, hand-painted metal flowers. “I love that, while it has all this unhinged decoration, the silhouette underneath is super simple and sweet,” Schafer’s stylist, Dara Allen, told Vogue of the look. Equally as sweet was Maisie Williams’s look at the GQ Men of the Year Awards in London: Her blue tulle and sequin dress, from Maison Margiela, had just the right amount of maximalism—right down to her crystallized Tabi heels. There were moments of soft power this week, too. At the 74th National Book Awards in New York City, model Kaia Gerber chose a vintage Ralph Lauren strapless dress from the designer’s fall 2001 collection. At the Variety Power of Women event, Killers of the Flower Moon star Lily Gladstone chose a vibrant red dress from Jamie Okuma—one of the most prominent Native American designers in the contemporary fashion landscape—that reflected her own Indigenous background.
