Anyone who enjoys watching Jeremy Allen-White ponder life inside of a walk-in refrigerator, Ayo Edebiri attempt to tame kitchen chaos, or Ebon Moss-Bachrach plan another elaborate surprise for customers will be pleased to know that The Bear has been renewed for a fifth season.
On July 1, FX confirmed that the fan-favorite series will be returning with a new season in 2026. The announcement comes just days after the release of season four, which was made available in its entirety on June 25 on FX on Hulu.
In a statement released by FX announcing the renewal, chairman John Landgraf said that “The Bear continues to be a fan favorite worldwide and their response to this season — as seen through incredibly high viewership — has been as spectacular as any of its previous seasons. Year in and year out, Chris Storer, the producers, cast, and crew make The Bear one of the best shows on television, and we are excited that they will continue to tell this magnificent story.”
The Bear was created by screenwriter, director, and producer Christopher (Chris) Storer, with the first season airing on Hulu in 2022. The creator’s sister, Courtney Storer, is a professional chef and culinary producer for the show.
This brother-sister duo’s ability to accurately portray the pressure, high stakes, and emotion of a restaurant kitchen earned them the title of Food & Wine Game Changers in 2024.
The Bear has been well received by critics and audiences alike, with the series receiving a total of 21 Primetime Emmy Awards thus far — including Outstanding Comedy Series in 2023 — and five Golden Globe awards. Storer’s writing and directing, in addition to acting performances from White, Edebiri, Moss-Bachrach, Liza Colón-Zayas, and other members of the core cast that have become well-beloved by viewers.
While the first two seasons were widely acclaimed, season three garnered some mild criticism for issues such as a slow-moving plotline and a reliance on gimmicks like celebrity cameos. The end of the season left viewers awaiting the answer to a tense cliffhanger, but also pondering: When will the plot of The Bear finally move forward?
Although it was filmed consecutively with season three, the fourth season kicks off with more motion and higher stakes than witnessed in its antecedent, before building up to an even more shocking cliffhanger that left fans wondering if it would be the series finale.
Luckily, FX has confirmed it won’t leave us hanging for more than a year.
