The 50 Best Pizzerias in America for 2025
- Una Pizza Napoletana in New York City was named the best pizzeria in the United States by the pizza connoisseurs at 50 Top Pizza, an Italy-based organization.
- L’industrie Pizzeria, also in New York City, won Best Pizza Slice for the second consecutive year, recognized for its large “old-world” slices and creative ingredient combinations.
- 50 Top Pizza’s rankings are based on anonymous tastings assessing customer service, attention to detail, and pizza quality. Twelve of the top U.S. spots will advance to the global 50 Top Pizza World rankings in September.
The title of “best pizzeria” is highly personal and often controversial — but fortunately, one organization has taken on the task of identifying the top spots for a slice.
We now know the top pizzerias in the United States, thanks to the latest ranking from 50 Top Pizza USA. Once again, Una Pizza Napoletana in Manhattan, led by Anthony Mangieri, was recognized as the best. This charming New York City restaurant has garnered numerous international awards and is featured in the Michelin Guide as a premier spot to savor traditional, wood-fired Neapolitan pizza.
When asked about the award — and his plans for Una Pizza Napoletana’s future — Mangieri says he’ll continue his commitment to painstakingly managing every detail of each slice, every step of the way. That’s where the real magic happens.
“Next year, 2026, will be our 30th anniversary, and I still make all the dough for every single pizza that we serve,” Mangieri tells Food & Wine. “It’s exhausting but it also inspires me, and I still want to be better, so every day when I wake up, I go into work and I’m excited that it could be a chance for me to do it better than I did the day before. I think that’s what makes it kind of special.”
Mangieri and a host of other outstanding chefs were honored with a New York City ceremony earlier this week.
As for the rest of the list, Pizzeria Sei in Los Angeles ranks second overall, followed by Tony’s Pizza Napoletana in San Francisco. (Tony’s features seven pizza ovens and a full bar.) Jay’s Pizzeria, in the suburbs of Buffalo, secured the No. 4 position. Among the other pizzerias, two tied for the No. 10 and No. 32 spots — so technically, there are 52 top pizzerias.
In an announcement, 50 Top Pizza’s organizers highlight the variety of pizza styles, techniques, and ingredients among the nation’s leading innovators. “Year after year, we are noticing changes in pizzerias across the United States,” the organization notes. “We would also like to mention that the different styles of pizza that our inspectors get to enjoy are also getting more numerous, this is a good thing because it creates a wider variety for the customer.”
Let’s take a look at the methodology: This list is compiled by 50 Top Pizza, a global industry organization that ranks pizza restaurants worldwide. It’s based on hundreds of pizza tastings at the best spots in each country, all of which are conducted anonymously. Criteria include customer service, attentiveness, and, of course, pizza quality.
Their discerning judges didn’t just evaluate whole pies. One of the contest categories was Best Pizza Slice, whose top honor was bestowed upon the highly acclaimed L’industrie Pizzeria in New York City. Under the leadership of Massimo Laveglia and Nick Baglivo, this West Village eatery is known for its massive old-world slices and innovative ingredient lists. This is another victory lap — L’industrie also took the top spot in last year’s Best Pizza Slice category.
Thirteen other pizza spots made the cut for Best Pizza Slice, including Slice & Pie in Washington D.C., Taglio in Minneola, and Mama’s Too, also in New York City.
As for next steps, 12 of the Top 50 Pizza USA restaurants (and three of the top 50 Best Pizza Slice USA spots) will be entered into the global competition. They’ll be automatically included in the world rankings, alongside the best pies from the Asia-Pacific region, Latin America, and Europe.
Next up is 50 Top Pizza World, in September, which judges the best pizzas on the international stage.
