Every US Open, of course, takes on its own particular personality: Is it the year of upsets? Of rivalries resumed, ramped up—or kick-started? Of epic evening matches that creep into the wee hours? Of sunshine, rain, pleasant breezes (or, um, floods)? What stays the same, year after year, though: The tennis tribe (or, alternately, the Honey Deuce tribe) gathering together to celebrate the greatest game on Earth in the greatest city in the world. We sent photographer Skyler Dahan on a kind of focused roam through the grounds of the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, Queens, to document the annual pilgrimage to tennis’s most emotional, most raucous, most around-the-clock Grand Slam.
