Rep. Khanna slams Trump over his ‘extreme disrespect’ for women

Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) slammed former President Trump over his “extreme disrespect” for women during his Saturday appearance on MSNBC.

When asked by the host of “PoliticsNation,” Al Sharpton, what the outcome of the E. Jean Carroll defamation trial says about the former president, Khanna responded by saying that Trump’s disrespect towards women has been reflected in policy and that some Republican women have reservations over positions.

“Reverend, it says that this president has shown extreme disrespect for women,” Khanna said. “$80 million of disrespect, according to a jury.

Khanna was referencing the Friday decision made by a federal jury that order Trump to pay $83.3 million for defaming Carroll in 2019 after she accused him of rape. That was the second time Trump had to pay the columnist. Last May, Trump was ordered to pay $5 million to the writer after the jury found him liable for sexual abuse.

Khanna emphasized that Trump appointed conservative judges to the Supreme Court and that the highest court ruled in 2022 in a 6-3 decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, striking down a constitutional right to abortion and giving states authority to limit the procedure.

“Remember, this is the president who got rid of Roe v. Wade, took away women’s rights to their own autonomy with their bodies. In a contrast with President Biden and Vice President Harris couldn’t be clearer. I think it’s going to be very problematic with him. The Republican women, many of whom might have concerns about the policies he’s taken.”

Khanna joined the show from South Carolina where he is campaigning on the president’s behalf. The congressman was also one of Biden’s top surrogates in New Hampshire where he was rallying voters to write in Biden since the president was not on the ballot in the Granite State primary, but still won the contest with around 64 percent of the vote, according to Decision Desk HQ.
