Reese’s PB&J Big Cups Are Here to Sweeten Your Snack Time
Does it get any more classic than peanut butter and jelly? This simple yet nostalgic pairing transcends generations, and now, Reese’s is putting its own spin on the beloved snack.
Reese’s is finally making that dream a reality with Reese’s PB&J Big Cups, a layered treat that recreates the classic childhood lunch. Two beloved PB&J flavors, Strawberry and Grape, are rolling out to retailers nationwide as we speak, and Food & Wine fortunately got a sneak peek. We can happily confirm that, in true Reese’s fashion, this treat features a generous layer of creamy peanut butter balanced by a light layer of sugary sweet fruit jelly.
“People love peanut butter and chocolate together, and sometimes it’s just about finding that extra element that enhances it,” Reese’s senior brand manager Melissa Blette tells Food & Wine. “That’s what we were doing with this project — how are we continuing to make this a variant of Reese’s that people would love to try, in addition to the original that they already love?”
Interested in grabbing a pack of your own? The brand confirms they will be available for a limited time at various retailers in a range of formats — including standard, king, and snack-sized packs. King-sized packs are already listed on Family Dollar’s website, while other options are available at Walmart for just under $2. Bulk boxes are also offered on Hershey’s online shop for $16 per 16-pack.
Food & Wine / Reese's
Reese’s Big Cups, which feature a higher ratio of peanut butter to chocolate, have recently appeared on shelves. You may have already noticed the Chocolate Lava or Caramel Big Cups in stores — but this marks the first time Reese’s has added fruit jelly to that larger-than-life snack.
Rumors of this PB&J combination have been circulating online for months, and the debut of the new treat has been met with considerable excitement. The brand set the stage for this launch yesterday by teasing a timely “new” product — the Reese’s Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwich. However, on Instagram, commenters largely did not fall for the April Fools’ Day joke. Instead, they pleaded for the early release of the rumored Peanut Butter and Jelly Big Cups.
Playfulness is right in line with the brand, Blette says.
“As a brand, Reese’s likes to have fun. It’s confident in what it does but it has a good time,” Blette says. “We’ve never really pulled that lever [on April Fools’ Day] before, and knowing that National PB&J Day is on April 2, it was just so perfect.”
Interestingly enough, Reese’s says it packs 160 million pounds of peanut butter into its peanut butter cups every year, which is just enough to make more than a billion classic PB&Js, as the company tells us.
That’s enough to satiate any appetite — or sweet tooth, in this case.
