After a summer of SAG-AFTRA striking—which included a lack of red carpets for blockbuster films like Barbie—the Golden Globes mark our first major return to Hollywood events. And the world is ready for (please, God) some glamour.
“People are craving some excitement,” says hairstylist Gregory Russell, whose clients for the Golden Globs are Jennifer Lawrence and Ludwig Goransson. “I anticipate seeing a return to glamour, like classic Hollywood looks with a modern, minimalistic spin.”
Nail artist Mazz Hanna predicts that art will continue to make a statement for the upcoming season. “Delicate nail art was really popular on the red carpet in 2023,” she shares. But don’t discount the “old money” nail trend that Jennifer Lopez has been seen wearing recently—that’ll be making an appearance on digits, too.
Mary Phillips, who popularized the under-painting technique (think of it as the old-money approach to contouring), agrees with Russell’s prediction of classic glam coming back in 2024. “I anticipate seeing timeless elegant beauty on the red carpet,” the makeup artist, whose clients include Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid, tells Vogue. “The type of looks where the glam is so intricate and perfect that it looks understated and effortless.”
It’s all giving: We’re just happy to be here. “I’m simply excited to collaborate with some of my favorite artists again,” Emma Stone’s hairstylist Mara Roszak adds. “2024 is the year of hair health, and I anticipate seeing fresh, clean looks. Nothing overly complicated.”
“Many people don’t consider the impact that the strike had on the industry beyond the actors and writers,” Hanna adds to the conversation. “Everyone from producers to agencies to caterers were heavily affected. I’m particularly excited about bolder and more innovative nail designs that reflect the resilience and creativity of the industry in a post-strike world.”
