Reckitt recalls certain batches of Nutramigen baby formula
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced that Reckitt Benckiser (OTCPK:RBGPF) unit Mead Johnson Nutrition has voluntarily recalled several batches of its Nutramigen Hypoallergenic Baby Formula due to possible bacterial contamination.
The pathogen identified as Cronobacter sakazakii is found naturally in the environment and can enter manufacturing plants despite product testing. There were no reports of illnesses, though most of the affected products have been distributed and consumed in the U.S., the FDA said in a statement over the weekend.
The regulator mentioned the batch codes of recalled products and advised consumers to discontinue their use, destroy them, or seek a refund from Reckitt (OTCPK:RBGLY).
Nutramigen is a hypoallergenic baby formula used for allergies to cow’s milk, and the FDA said that the product recall was unlikely to cause a baby formula shortage as it is in contact with other manufacturers to ensure an adequate supply.
Other manufacturers of hypoallergenic baby formula include Abbott Laboratories (ABT).
