Man allegedly shoots at neighbor in Northern California, prompts standoff with police

(FOX40.COM) — A man who allegedly shot inside his neighbor’s residence in Northern California was arrested by police.

Around 4:22 a.m., the Galt Police Department responded to the 400 block of N. Lincoln Way for a report of a shooting. The reporting party said their upstairs neighbor approached the front door of their residence, brandished a handgun, fired one round at the door, and then returned to his apartment.

SWAT investigation in Galt prompts road closures

GPD said the suspect was unknown to the victims, and no one inside the residence was injured. The incident was captured on Ring camera footage. In response, GPD’s response team and the Elk Grove Police Department established a perimeter around the scene and helped residents evacuate or shelter in place.

SWAT officers made announcements instructing the suspect to surrender, according to GPD. A short time later, the male suspect exited his apartment and was taken into custody without incident.

The suspect was identified as Javier Ordaz, 40, of Galt. A search warrant was executed at his residence, where investigators said they recovered a handgun believed to have been used in the incident. According to GPD, the firearm was reported stolen, and Ordaz was found to be a convicted felon with prior robbery convictions.

Ordaz was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail for alleged assault with a deadly weapon, shooting at an inhabited dwelling, and felon in possession of a firearm, according to GPD. He is currently ineligible for bail and is scheduled to appear in court on July 1.
