‘Kung Fu Panda 4’ keeps top spot at box-office for 2nd weekend (NASDAQ:WBD)
“Kung Fu Panda 4” this weekend generated an estimated $30 million at the box office for its second straight week as the No. 1 movie. The Universal (CMCSA) and DreamWorks Animation film was in 4,067 theaters throughout North America, and has hauled in $107.7 million domestically, according to Box Office Pro.
The animated sequel featuring the voice of actor Jack Black again beat out “Dune: Part Two,” whose estimated $29.1 million on 3,847 screens lifted its domestic tally to $205.8 million. Warner Bros. Discovery (NASDAQ:WBD) and Legendary Entertainment are distributing the sci-fi epic, whose global box-office sales hit $494.7 million.
The sequel, starring Timothy Chalamet and Zendaya, has surpassed the $431.2 million global total for “Dune: Part One.” The first movie’s box-office sales likely were suppressed with its simultaneous streaming premiere during the pandemic.
Lionsgate’s family-friendly “Arthur the King” starring Mark Wahlberg generated an estimated $7.5 million on 3,003 screens domestically to debut at No. 3. The studio’s horror film “Imaginary” pulled in $5.6 million in its second week.
