Jimmy John’s Is Dropping a ‘Toasted’ 4/20 Combo Box

Jimmy John’s claims to know its audience — and their extracurricular activities, too. Whenever 4/20 eventually rolls around, the company has delivered deals to satisfy even the fiercest munchies. 

The sandwich chain will celebrate the unofficial holiday with a brand-new combo called the T.H.C. Box. And no, this doesn’t include any elevating substances — that acronym stands for Toasted Hot Combo box, silly. In this $TK deal, you can receive any toasted sandwich, your choice of Jimmy Chips, a pickle, and whichever dessert you prefer. 

It’s all wrapped up in a limited-edition box “to keep your sandwich hot,” and in the announcement, Jimmy John’s playfully implied that these sandwiches might be even better after indulging. Whether you dabble in ahem, the green stuff or not, it’s still an opportunity to snag a great deal. 

“4/20 and getting toasted go hand in hand, so this year we had to bring something fun, satisfying, and hot to the table,” Kate Carpenter, vice president of marketing at Jimmy John’s, tells Food & Wine. “With our new Toasted Sandwiches, the T.H.C. Box is our way of celebrating the holiday with fans and serving up the perfect meal to toast the occasion — literally.” 

For those who aren’t aware, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is the compound in cannabis that produces a psychoactive high. It’s also used to objectively measure the potency of edibles, drinks, vapes, and other products. Most low-dose cannabis products begin at around two to three milligrams of THC, and many states impose limits on the amount of THC that can be sold. In Jimmy John’s case, this acronym presents an ideal marketing opportunity to showcase the brand’s newest crispy sandwiches:

Of course, April 20 is regarded as a day to celebrate all things green — and Jimmy John’s festive box aligns perfectly with the occasion. On its social channels, the brand has embraced people's love of the plant, featuring lighthearted jokes and playful clouds of smoke around the newest toasted subs. 

You didn’t always have the option to request your Jimmy John’s sandwich toasted. In February, the chain finally introduced its crispiest sandwiches — which, of course, included the option to toast anything on the menu. Additionally, the move added three specialty subs designed for that warm and crispy experience: Chicken Bacon Ranch, Roast Beef and Cheddar, and Ultimate Italian. 

During last year’s festivities, Jimmy John’s deemed themselves “a go-to 4/20 destination.” We’ll let you be the judge.
