India says strikes on Pakistan meant to deter further attacks

The Indian armed forces said that nine “terrorist camps” were targeted, some deep inside the international boundary between India and Pakistan.

The camps were targeted after New Delhi launched air strikes against its neighbour over last month’s deadly militant attack on tourists in Indian-administered Kashmir.

Air force commander Vyomika Singh told reporters in New Delhi that the strikes on the camps “were undertaken . . . with niche technology weapons with careful selection to ensure that there was no collateral damage” in an operation that lasted less than half an hour.

“The targets were neutralised with clinical efficiency . . . no military establishments were targeted,” she added.
