I Want What They Have: Kristen Stewart and Dylan Meyer

Love is a many-splendored thing, especially when you’re gawking at it from the outside. In this column, we’ll be examining the celebrity couples that give us hope for our own romantic futures and trying to learn what we can from their well-documented bonds.

I will admit that it’s not hard to get me to stan a queer celebrity couple; all they have to do is not be Republicans, pretty much, and you can count on me to clap like a seal every time they emerge together in public. But Kristen Stewart and her fiancée, Dylan Meyer, are a different matter entirely. I don’t say this lightly, but I think I would love them even if they were straight (gasp!), if only for their couples’ style; they clean up nicely for the red carpet, but they always seem most themselves when they’re slouching around Hollywood in carefully coordinated sweats and sexy messy hair. It reminds me of Ashley Benson and Cara Delevingne carrying around their sex bench, in the absolute best way.

Stewart is currently trending for having the audacity to…be super gay in Rolling Stone, and while I obviously support that endeavor wholeheartedly, my favorite part of Alex Morris’s profile is its focus on the professional collaboration between Stewart and Meyer, who met in 2019 on the set of the movie American Ultra and got engaged in 2021. Meyer is a successful screenwriter in her own right, and she and Stewart have a production company together called Nevermind: “Me and Dylan are writing something, so the first three hours, we treasure them. Our brains are just working well at that time,” Stewart tells Morris. “When she moved into this house, I had no curtains, three forks, and I never drank coffee, and I was like, ‘I don’t sleep.’ She’s like, ‘In the morning, you drink coffee and you work, and you’re alive, and you’re awake, and then at night you close the curtains.’ In retrospect, it was so obvious.” Fuckboy excellence!

Not only do Stewart and Meyer work together, but they also work out together, which I truly adore. Morris’s description of Stewart absolutely smoking her fiancée at chin-ups is the lesbian love story of the year, in my humble opinion. And if that weren’t enough, Meyer posted a truly sweet Valentine’s Day ode to her beloved on Instagram on Wednesday, writing: “I am just so, so into you.” Sometimes that’s all that needs to be said, although I also appreciate Meyer spotlighting Stewart’s cat-mom skills; stereotypes aside, we queers do not take our pets lightly!
