Hawaii Is the No. 1 Trending Summer 2025 Destination

  • A recent analysis named Hawaii the No. 1 trending state for summer 2025 vacations, with a 132 percent search spike.
  • Within Hawaii, the Kaanapali area on the island of Maui saw an increase in searches.
  • Kaanapali is home to one of the best beaches in the country.

The cold weather is still blowing hard across much of the United States, which may have you dreaming of a warm weather escape. And according to HometoGo, there's no better place to visit than the 50th state.

In January, the home-sharing website named Hawaii the top-trending state in the U.S. for summer getaways after it saw a 132 percent increase in vacation searches. Specifically, it noted that Kaanapali, an area along the western coast of Maui, was another top-trending spot for vacationers, seeing its own 242 percent increase in searches.

It's little surprise that Kaanapali is such a highly sought-after destination once you get a glimpse of its azure waters and soft, white sand beaches. It's so spectacular that it was even once named the Best Beach in America, Go Hawaii explained.

It's also a spot where you can find a fantastic place to stay. As Go Hawaii noted, it was the state's “first planned resort and has become a model for resorts around the globe.” Currently, five hotels and six condo villages sit facing the beach, including the Outrigger, the Hyatt, and the Westin.

Joining Kaanapali high on HometoGo's list is Destin, Florida, tucked away in the state's panhandle, which comes with its own white sand beaches and fantastic fishing opportunities. Also on the list is North Carolina’s Outer Banks, which, again, has must-see beaches. It also happens to be one of the most affordable vacation destinations in the U.S.

“As many U.S. travelers deal with drastically low temperatures and snow this winter, from the Midwest to Texas and even Florida, it’s no surprise that beaches and coastal destinations are the most searched and top trending for upcoming U.S. summer travel,” Breanna-May Shepard, a HomeToGo spokesperson and travel expert, shared in a statement provided to Travel + Leisure. “From the wildly popular sands of Florida’s Gulf Coast to the striking beauty of Hawaii’s islands, beachside towns are seeing notable growth in searches.”

However, U.S. beaches aren't the only ones getting love on this list. HometoGo noted that Italy, Greece, Croatia, Spain, and France are all seeing a boom in searches. So, if you're thinking of planning a beachy escape now through summer, do so ASAP before all the best homes are booked.
