Gucci’s Fall 2024 Make-Up Was Inspired By ’60s Italian Movie Stars

How do you ensure the beauty complements Sabato De Sarno’s elegant Gucci autumn/winter 2024 collection? By looking at one of Italy’s chicest eras—the ’60s—and in particular, its movie stars.

Gucci Beauty’s global color and make-up artist, Thomas de Kluyver, explained: “I always like to look at make-up like a fashion accessory. The look needed to be really universal and versatile and work on every single model. I wanted to do something that was very chic and elevated. Sabato was looking at these famous actresses from the 1960s, like Sophia Loren. We wanted to do a modern take on that so we’ve landed on this look that is a very, very thick line on the top of the eye and then an ultra thin line underneath—a very modern take on traditional ’60s make-up.”

De Kluyver used Gucci Beauty’s Eye Kohl “for maximum impact and then finished with the Eyeliner Pen for precision. All the models have super, super flawless, effortless skin—nothing that feels too heavy or contoured.”

Meanwhile, hairstylist Duffy created slicked-back, shiny styles to match the delicate lace and embellished details in the collection. If hair was long enough, it was combed back and neatly secured into the collars seen on the catwalk. A cozy way to wear wet hair in winter, perhaps.
