GJPD identifies officer in Jan. 19 shooting

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) – The Grand Junction Police Department has identified the officer involved in a shooting on Jan. 19.

Officer Toby Baldwin discharged his duty weapon during the incident. The original press release reported the suspect – 46-year-old Aaron Blount – allegedly fired his weapon multiple times before the officer returned fire.

A U.S. Army veteran, Baldwin has been with GJPD for around three years after nine years of previous law enforcement experience. He serves as a patrol officer, field training officer and firearms instructor.

“As is standard protocol with any officer-involved shooting, the officer is currently on paid administrative leave, pending the outcome of an internal investigation which takes place separately from the criminal investigation being conducted by the 21st Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team. This incident remains under investigation by CIRT,” the police department said in the news release.
