Ingredients list for the beef stir-fry recipe
- 1 lb (450g) flank steak, cut into strips
- 1 medium onion, sliced
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoons paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon instant chicken bouillon (optional)
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil or any neutral oil (we like canola oil)
- 1 teaspoon red chili pepper flakes, optional
Directions
1. To make the onion steak stir-fry: Transfer the sliced beef to a large mixing bowl. Add black pepper, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, instant beef stock, Italian seasoning, and Parmesan. Marinate the beef for 15 – 20 minutes (or more) while you cut and cook the onion.
2. In a large skillet over medium, heat vegetable oil and fry the onion until slightly caramelized (approx. 5 minutes), stirring from time to time with a wooden spoon. Remove the cooked onion to a shallow plate.
3. In the same skillet over medium-high heat, stir-fry the beef strips in a single layer – add a bit of oil if needed. Brown beef on each side for 2-3 minutes per side.
4. Add the onion back to the skillet and stir well to combine with the beef. Add 1/4 cup of beef stock to deglaze and stir-fry for another 1 minute until the sauce thickens a little.
5. Sprinkle the beef with red chili pepper flakes, if you like. Remove from the heat and enjoy the beef stir-fry with your favorite veggies! ❤️
Tips for the beef stir-fry recipe
- While this is a stir-fry, try to cook the beef undisturbed for the first minute so the beef strips will get a nice sear.
- We deglaze the stir-fry with beef stock, but nothing prevents you from adding a splash of lemon juice or soy sauce.
What cut of beef to make a stir-fry?
We recommend flank steak, sirloin steak, or skirt steak. Other cuts might need some trimming to remove fat and the tough tissues.
How to keep the stir-fry leftovers?
You can keep any leftovers in an airtight container in your fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in the microwave or in a skillet with a splash of water to loosen up the sauce.
