DCCC raises $9.5 million in January

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) announced Tuesday it raised $9.5 million in the first month of the year.

The DCCC announced its January numbers on Tuesday, stating in a press release that the latest funds bring its total cash on hand to nearly $52 million. The announcement comes just a week after Democrats flipped a Republican seat in the House during a New York special election for former Rep. George Santos’s (R-N.Y.) vacant seat.

“House Republicans started the year off by continuing to prioritize political games over bipartisan solutions, all while pushing the government towards another shutdown,” DCCC Chair Suzan DelBene said in a statement.

“House Democrats will continue to stand against this rampant extremism and dysfunction, and I am grateful to my colleagues, Leader Jeffries, and grassroots donors across the country for ensuring the DCCC is equipped with the resources it needs to take back the House so we can continue lowering costs and defending our rights and freedoms for working people.”

The DCCC’s announcement said former Rep. Tom Suozzi’s (D) victory over Republican Mazi Pilip last week is “chipping away at the GOP’s dysfunctional majority and building critical momentum in the election year.” With Suozzi’s win, the House Republicans’ slim majority will narrow to 219-213 once he is sworn in.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) announced last month he raised $113 million for Democratic candidates in 2023, including $99 million for the DCCC last year. This comes as House Democrats are targeting several potential flip opportunities in 2024, including in Jeffries’ home state of New York.
