There's something about the desert that forces you to slow down. Likely, it's the vast emptiness stretching in every direction, the wind that carries the sands, or the golden light that transforms the landscape at sunset. At the Caravan Agafay by Our Habitas Hotel ($235 per night), this stillness is part of the allure — though, if you prefer movement, there's plenty to do.

Nestled just an hour outside Marrakech, Habitas offers a balanced mix of nature and luxury. The landscape is raw but soft and welcoming, set against the cinematic backdrop of the Atlas Mountains. Beyond its stunning views, Habitas stands out from other luxury hotels for its commitment to Moroccan heritage. From the moment I arrived, the experience was infused with local tradition. My friends and I were welcomed with a ceremony designed to clear negative energy. And as the day was winding down, Ms. Fatima kneaded and baked crispy Berber tafernout bread in an outdoor wood-fire oven, offering samples straight from the hot stone fire. The process was mesmerizing for us to watch and if you're curious enough, she'll even teach you how it's done.

It was the perfect welcome for a luxury camping experience that I found equally calming and restorative, while also adventurous and exciting depending on the day. Keep reading for my full review of the Caravan Agafay by Our Habitas Hotel.

What I Like About the Caravan Agafay by Our Habitas Hotel

The accommodations at Habitas lean into the brand's signature style: earthy, minimal, and beautifully designed with natural materials that blend into the landscape. The vibe is low-key luxury, less about over-the-top opulence and more about thoughtful, well-crafted spaces that feel both stylish and relaxed.

If the idea of stillness isn't your thing, Habitas has plenty of activities to keep you busy. It can feel like a luxury retreat or an adventure camp for adults, depending on how you spend your time.

Wellness played a big role. Morning yoga and meditation sessions were a great way to start the day, while spa treatments inspired by local traditions helped me wind down. Still, some of the best moments came from simply being present, whether napping by the pool, dozing off near the dining area, or finding a quiet moment in the on-property library.

If the idea of stillness isn't your thing, Habitas has plenty of activities to keep you busy. It can feel like a luxury retreat or an adventure camp for adults, depending on how you spend your time. One of my favorite experiences was horseback riding. Unlike most trail rides, where you follow a single-file line at a slow pace, the open desert allows you to ride at different levels. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced rider, you can explore at your own speed. It's exhilarating and feels much freer than typical horseback riding attractions. I also did the camel ride at sunset, which is slower and rooted in tradition. Watching the sunset from the back of a camel is a peaceful, beautiful experience I'll always remember. The hotel also can coordinate yoga, quad biking, ATV riding, and more.

I also never turn down a spa treatment and my massage at the spa was the perfect way to relax after a day of activity. They typically offer reflexology and cranial massages, which I found intriguing, but you can also get a full body massage upon request.

What to Consider Before Booking the Caravan Agafay by Our Habitas Hotel

I would avoid visiting in the winter months. While the days are lovely, nights can get chilly fast. Despite the staff's best efforts to combat the nighttime chill, the desert cold is not to be played with.

Also, pets are not allowed (outside of service animals) so if you're traveling with a furry friend, you should explore other options.

Who the Caravan Agafay by Our Habitas Hotel Is Best For

Habitas Agafay is for travelers who want an elevated experience while staying close to nature. It's perfect for travelers who want to experience the duality of Marrakech's landscapes and may need a moment to escape the city's hustle and bustle but also, don't mind getting a little dust on their shoes.

Is Caravan Agafay by Our Habitas Hotel Worth It?

If you're looking for a place that balances escapism with curated experiences, Habitas at Agafay delivers. The desert isn't for everyone, but for those who get it, there's a certain magic in the stillness, the expanse, and the feeling of being somewhere that exists entirely on its own terms.
