Burger King’s Much-Anticipated BK Melts Menu Is Back
It may be the holiday season, but at Burger King, that means it’s melts season.
The restaurant chain announced that a three-sandwich lineup of BK Melts will return on December 19 across the more than 6,700 stores. “Burger King is celebrating the most Whopper-ful time of the year with the return of its meltiest and cheesiest specialty — BK Melts,” the brand says in a statement provided to Food & Wine.
The lineup features two of the original 2022 options — then dubbed the Whopper Melts — and another style that debuted last December. The 2024 BK Melts lineup includes the original Classic Melt and Bacon Melt and highlights the return of the Shroom n’ Swiss.
The Shroom n’ Swiss features two slices of toasted bread layered with two Whopper Jr. patties, melted Swiss cheese, roasted mushrooms, and Royal Sauce. This style made its first appearance during the 2023 holiday season’s limited-time run of the BK Melts.
The Classic Melt and Bacon Melt offer similar recipes. Both feature two slices of toasted bread, two Whopper Jr. patties, melted American cheese, caramelized onions, and Stacker Sauce. The only difference is that the Bacon Melt also features crispy bacon. Both were part of the original lineup and have appeared in every re-release since.
BK Melts made a debut at the home of the Whopper in 2022, but didn’t stick as a regular menu item. The first comeback happened in March 2023, a roughly two-month limited-time offering that featured both the Classic Melt and Bacon Melt alongside the original Spicy Melt that starred jalapeños and a creamy, spicy sauce.
The lineup returned in early December 2023, with the Shroom n’ Swiss making its debut and replacing the original Spicy Melt. This past spring, a new Burger King limited-edition lineup featured the Philly Melt, the first offering of its kind in the BK Melts lineup, which still featured the Classic Melt and Bacon Melt. The new Philly Melt included peppers and onions with Swiss cheese and Royal Sauce.
According to the chain, the 2024 holiday offerings, which include three melts that have appeared before, will cost $4.99. This fifth iteration of a BK Melts limited-time rollout is the second to feature a December release, giving Burger King’s BK Melts lineup a spring and Christmas feel.
Along with the BK Melts, Burger King will also bring back BK Churro Fries, which first debuted in October and are already “back by popular demand.” The crispy, fried churros are coated in cinnamon sugar and are available in four, eight, and twelve-count packages. Both the BK Melts lineup and BK Churro Fries are limited-time releases.
