Sure, 2000’s Almost Famous is now a cult classic movie—but 25 years later, we’re still stuck on Kate Hudson’s portrayal of the chic and alluring Penny Lane. Based on a real-life groupie, Penny is obsessed with following around bands on tour—and her wardrobe is equally as rockstar-worthy. Mainly, that shearling coat, which has since become a sartorial touchpoint for the film’s iconography (brought to life by costume designer Betsy Heimann). Even today, designers continue to put their stamp on the shearling-lined coat, including labels like Loewe and Acne Studios. Now, supermodel Bella Hadid has just served up a modern twist on the outerwear staple.
Hadid was spotted at the West Side Helliport in New York City yesterday, January 25 (presumably to catch a private helicopter somewhere), and her cozy wintery look was completed by a vintage coat that was giving 2025 Penny Lane. The brown suede style, complete with a shaggy trim, was styled with brown leather knee boots—and is exactly the type of look that Penny would wear to a ’70s rock show. Hadid could not help but give the groovy ensemble an update with a checkered Louis Vuitton duffel bag, which came complete with a plushy bag charm—one of the hottest accessory trends of the moment.
