Anna Sui Channels 1940s Pin-Up Glam for Fall Winter 2025

Oh, to be a 1940s socialite. That's what Anna Sui dreamed about while designing her fall-winter 25 collection—Barbara Hutton, Doris Duke, and Peggy Guggenheim all served as inspiration for the clothes—but it was raven haired beauties Bettie Page and Dita Von Teese specifically who inspired the hair and makeup.

“Anna Sui's collection channels the opulent, unconventional flair of legendary heiresses who indulged in jewels and art while leaving an unforgettable legacy of glamour,” makeup artist Pat McGrath says about the makeup look, which used layers of shadow from Mothership I to create a dimensional cat eye that sprang from the lower lash line. “The makeup look embodies the lavish and slightly rebellious vibe of the woman who has everything—and is not afraid to flaunt it.”

“Everybody has been wearing their hair in these long waves for so long,” hairstylist Garren said backstage. It was time to change it up—and so he created a high energy pin-up girl look. Garren and his R+Co team used both a curling iron and velcro rollers to create “bumper bangs”—faux bangs loved by the modern rockabilly community—by curling the front semicircle of hair and then rolling it up upon itself. From there, two victory rolls were piled atop the head—and it was all sealed into place with the Cult Classic Flexible Hairspray. “That’s the yin and yang,” Garren adds. “Very chic clothes with pinup girl hair.”
