A Wicked Good Time: Cynthia Erivo Joins UTA and Vanity Fair for a Tony Awards Kickoff
The countdown to Sunday’s Tony Awards is on, and the celebrations have begun in style. On Friday evening, United Talent Agency (UTA) and Vanity Fair—with special guest Cynthia Erivo—gathered friends, clients, and collaborators at the Times Square Edition to toast the agency’s 20 Tony-nominated talents.
Joining Erivo were several nominees, including Gracie Lawrence (Just In Time), Sanaz Toossi (English), Joy Woods (Gypsy), and Daniel Dae Kim (Yellow Face), along with UTA clients Ashley Graham, Delaney Rowe, Arian Moayed, Jay Ellis, Alyah Chanelle Scott, and more. Executives and editors from both UTA and Vanity Fair rounded out the crowd.
“This has been such a rich Broadway season, and it was inspiring to bring together the producers, playwrights, and Tony nominees we’ve been covering at Vanity Fair, especially Cynthia, who we’ve been working so closely with this year,” said Vanity Fair acting editor in chief, Daniel Kile.
Indeed, the magazine has championed Erivo in the lead-up to Wicked: Part I. She and co-star Ariana Grande fronted Vanity Fair’s October 2024 cover, just a month before the film’s global release. The feature was paired with a now-viral lie detector video, in which Grande asked Erivo if there’s such a thing as a “fun awards show.” Her answer? “Yes, truly! The Tonys are usually my favorite. It feels like I get to meet up with all the friends that I haven’t seen for a long time, and theatre is where I started.”
That spirit of reunion—among Broadway’s past, present, and future—was palpable at the Edition. Any trace of competition or nerves seemed to fade amid the camaraderie and shared excitement for what lies ahead.
