Donald Trump warns Iran of further attacks if Tehran does not ‘make peace’
Business secretary Jonathan Reynolds said the UK had been informed by the US ahead of time of its plans to launch a military attack on Iran.
“We were informed as you might expect by a key ally,” he said on Sky, though he added that “no request was made” for the UK to support the action, including the use of the Diego Garcia base.
Reynolds urged Iran to “get back around the table” and stressed that “we need a diplomatic process to turn this around”.
“The Iranians have miscalculated on this, they have underestimated the international resolve,” he added.
“We have moved British military assets to the region and we will take all actions necessary to defend our own interests, our own people, and of course those of key allies if they are under threat,” he said, referring to any attacks on UK or US bases or personnel.
