Inside Khloé Kardashian’s Extremely Organized Pantry
If you’ve been following the Kardashians for years — as so many of us have — you’re likely familiar with Khloé Kardashian’s famous cookie jar. Her large glass containers, featuring carefully arranged, alternating stacks of Oreos, are so organized and painstakingly crafted that fans have been talking about, and even recreating, them since the 2010s.
This initial glimpse into the middle Kardashian sister and Good American founder’s extreme attention to detail in the kitchen has naturally prompted fans to wonder how she organizes everything else. Fortunately, she finally filmed a pantry tour to address everyone’s burning questions.
Of course, Khloé Kardashian’s pantry isn’t exactly the most relatable. (She begins her tour by mentioning that the space was previously an extra garage, which she converted into a walk-in pantry, a situation I can’t remotely identify with as a working New Yorker with just three cupboards for food storage.)
But in addition to the intriguing insights this pantry tour offers into her life, there are also some surprisingly helpful tips you can glean from how Kardashian organizes her food storage.
Every single item is labeled
The moment you step into Kardashian’s pantry — which is arguably larger than my bedroom — the first thing you’ll notice is labels everywhere. Every item is decanted or placed into a designated storage container, and that container is then labeled accordingly.
Milk crates filled with packaged snacks bear labels such as “popcorn” or “chips.” Large glass jars display labels denoting the ingredients within, including whole wheat flour, orzo, farfalle, baking chocolate chips, semi-sweet chocolate chips, and every other pantry staple you can imagine.
Any dry goods that don’t come pre-separated into individual servings have been taken out of their original packaging and placed into a reusable, airtight container. This might stoke criticism of plastic waste, but the same amount of packaging is ultimately discarded whether you transfer Cheez-Its into a glass jar or not. Moving ingredients to airtight storage can also reduce some food waste by slowing the rate at which items become stale.
Of course, if you want to label more items in your pantry, you don’t have to use a label maker like Khloé Kardashian. Instead, just grab some painter’s tape or masking tape and a Sharpie like a chef.
Keep your own backstock
At the top of her pantry, Kardashian points out large boxes labeled as “backstock,” which contain more of her favorite foods. Labeling your own surplus pantry stock may not be necessary — although if you love labeling everything, the pantry is your oyster — but buying shelf-stable ingredients in bulk can be incredibly helpful for busy families.
To start, having large stores of ingredients that you frequently use, such as rice, pasta, or chips, can decrease the number of grocery trips you need to make. Even more importantly, buying food in bulk is an excellent way to take advantage of discounted prices. When it comes to cost per unit or by weight, you may find that some foods are less expensive when purchased in larger quantities.
If you have sufficient freezer space, this can extend beyond just the pantry. Warehouse retailers such as Sam’s Club and Costco often sell meat at discounted prices when customers purchase in bulk.
Yes, she organizes everything just like those Oreos
It’s clear from Kardashian’s pantry that if she has stackable treats in her kitchen, they will be meticulously arranged into that signature pattern her Oreos have become famous for. This includes Ritz Crackers, Fig Newtons, and iced animal cookies.
This isn’t a decor strategy I’ll be employing in my own home, but if you’re a very organized and precise person, it might be something you enjoy. At the very least, it’s entertaining to know that celebrities have their own home quirks just like everyone else.
Cutting boards can be decor
Right outside her pantry, Kardashian features a dry bar with spacious countertops and drawers that she uses for additional storage — this is where she keeps all her baking ingredients, noting that her household loves baking — and her approach to decorating the area provides an inviting suggestion.
Instead of using artwork to decorate her kitchen walls, the Khloud founder opts for something simpler: hanging or propping up multiple cutting boards. She notes that she actually uses them but also appreciates how they look. If you want to recreate this design tip at home, many thrift stores with kitchenware offer wooden cutting boards for sale at low prices. As an added bonus, this is a great way to store some kitchen tools without taking up cabinet space.
