Yeti Pour-Over Coffee Maker Launch

In recent years, outdoor brand Yeti has made serious efforts to upgrade its culinary offerings, from releasing shopper-loved cast iron skillets and leakproof food storage containers to an insulated cocktail shaker. As far as coffee goes, they make camp mugs that keep drinks hot for hours and even a 34-ounce French press for caffeinating outdoors. One big omission from its coffee lineup, though, has been a tool to make high-quality pour-over coffee — the method of brewing coffee where you place a conical device with a filter and coffee grounds atop a coffee cup or carafe and pour hot water over it — while camping, hiking, traveling, or anywhere else they might want an easy pick-me-up.

If you’ve had your fingers crossed for such a release, your wait is over: Yeti has finally released a portable Rambler pour-over. And it’s really, really good.

Yeti Rambler Pour-Over

Yeti

I’m a former barista who has made coffee almost every conceivable way, from manual, lever-based espresso to drip, French press, and, indeed, pour-over. In fact, pour-over happens to be my preferred method when I’m at home, so I was very excited to hear about this release (it didn’t hurt that I’m also a lifetime Yeti fan). Thankfully, Yeti sent me one to test out, and I’ve been enjoying it greatly.

There are a lot of fine details that go into the construction of a pour-over and the execution of making great coffee in it, but ultimately it’s a very simple, no-frills way of making superior coffee with minimal tools. Yeti’s iteration has some cool features, like double-wall insulation (for tighter temperature control), a sturdy base, and a stainless steel build. The latter is not only great for durability, since you might be packing this in a backpack or jumbling it around with other camp cookware, but stainless steel is also a preferable material for pour-over because it heats up quickly and doesn’t pull much temperature from your coffee.

Food & Wine

Since using this pour-over, I’ve found my coffee to be nearly indistinguishable from other pour-overs (i.e. it’s delicious). For brand continuity, I even tried brewing directly into my beloved Yeti Rambler 14-ounce mug, which kept said coffee hot for hours. The pour-over is compatible with normal V60 filters, which I use with my other coffee devices, so I didn’t even need to grab anything new. Between the use of filters and its kitchen-grade steel, it’s almost pointless to highlight that this is easy to wash, because there’s not even anything to clean, really — a quick rinse with water leaves you completely ready to make another cup.

The bottom line is that Yeti hit a home run here: This is basically a perfect pour-over, and it’s only $30. It’s incredibly sturdy and tough — a seriously high-quality piece of coffee gear. Personally, I’m excited about this because it’ll allow me to make pour-over not only in the great outdoors, but when I visit my mom’s house (since her coffee machine isn’t great), when I go on vacation, and when I inevitably break another delicate Hario V60 ceramic pour-over.
