Total active drilling rigs in the U.S. fell by 3 to 755, Baker Hughes said in its latest weekly report, ticking lower after two straight weekly increases.
Drilling rigs targeting crude oil in the U.S. fell by 1 to 592, while gas rigs dropped by 2 to 160 and 3 rigs remained classified as miscellaneous.
The total rig count is 12% higher than at the same time last year.
Rigs targeting oil in the Permian Basin fell by 1 to 347.
For Q1, the total oil and gas rig count fell by 24 rigs, the first quarterly decline since Q3 2020.
