This Tinted Sunscreen Is a Travel Essential
To say I’m obsessed with the All Good Tinted Mineral Sunscreen is an understatement. Ever since I discovered it a few years ago, it’s been the only sunscreen I put on my face, and it’s completely replaced foundation for me. Unlike other SPFs, it doesn’t sting or cause breakouts on my sensitive, acne-prone skin and it also helps calm my redness from rosacea. Lightweight, quick-absorbing, and non-greasy but hydrating, this is one of those holy-grail sunscreen products that has to go everywhere with me. It doesn’t leave a white cast since it’s tinted, and the sheer brown coloring actually blends in well with my light, olive-toned skin (no orange or pinky pigments).
But its staying power is what makes it really stand out as a must-pack item for active trips. I’ve been truly impressed with how well it holds up through everything from sweat-drenched marathon training runs in 95-degree Fahrenheit Colorado heat to boat days spent getting in and out of the water. When I learned to wake surf (think: wakeboarding, but you’re not strapped to the board, you eventually let go of the rope, and you ride the wake close to the boat) on Lake Austin, I wore my go-to All Good sunscreen. As much as I already loved this SPF, I was still shocked by how well it lasted throughout this particularly intense day.

I was going to take a lesson with seven-time world champion wake surfer Ashley Kidd, and we started the day bright and early with yoga on her dock before hopping in her MasterCraft XT23 to surf. It was June in Texas, so I was already sweating before we started our flow. Thankfully, I only had beads of sweat dripping down my face — and this sunscreen was not.
I spent a lot of time face-planting into the waves behind our boat that day, yet the All Good SPF still managed to hold strong, keep me protected from the elements, and offer some glowy coverage. I reapplied every few hours (as you should with any sunscreen) but I didn’t feel like it had fully washed off each time I got out of the water. It forms a great moisture barrier but doesn’t feel overly sticky to the touch. And it doesn’t run in your eyes — which is a big deal when you’re learning a new water sport. At Amazon, it comes in a value pack that includes the classic lotion in a 3-fluid-ounce squeeze container and travel-sized, solid “butter” sunscreen (SPF 50), which makes it incredibly easy to take on the go for reapplying, too.
I wore this SPF as my main makeup to dinner following my wake surfing lesson as well (I usually put it on after moisturizer and before a little dusting of powder and bronzer). It provides just the right amount of light, breathable coverage, and a slight glow. I appreciate that it’s reef-friendly too (thanks to the use of non-nano zinc, which also won’t be absorbed into your skin), and uses gentle, plant-based skincare ingredients like calendula, green tea, coconut oil, shea butter, jojoba oil, and aloe. I feel like this sunscreen has actually made my skin better since implementing it into my routine. And one 3-ounce container lasts several months for me!

A few notes: It comes in only one shade, so it won’t work for all skin tones, and it’s tinted using iron oxide, which can transfer and stain light and white fabric. I’ve never had issues with this (I only wear it on my face), but some shoppers mentioned it in their reviews. The product is brown with a slightly grayish-green hue that looks pretty dark as it comes out of the bottle, but it blends into a natural-looking hue for me. I find it matches my skin much better than tinted products with more orange and pink notes, and I haven’t been able to find anything that pairs with my yellow undertones better than this sunscreen.
This stuff really goes above and beyond the call of duty (that being to protect against sunburns and skin damage). As I’ve mentioned before, it doubles as a great BB cream-tinted moisturizer-foundation hybrid, so you can save space in your toiletry bag and streamline your travel makeup routine. It has a pleasant subtle scent (which is basically just the smell of the mixed ingredients; there’s no added fragrance), and feels just as good on your face for a night out or a day on the beach. It provides some nice, lightweight coverage during activities where you probably don’t want to be wearing full-on makeup but still want to even out your skin tone and cover blemishes.
It’s my everyday SPF product, but I swear by it for long bike rides, runs, hikes, paddleboarding, and kayaking, too. This is an absolute travel staple if you’re planning to be out in the sun at all, and I can confidently say the water resistance stands up to sweat and waves (upon waves, upon waves…to the face). If you’ve struggled to find a facial sunscreen that doesn’t feel icky or irritate your skin, give the All Good Tinted Mineral Sunscreen a try.
