These Are Officially the Top 50 Pizzerias in America

Sometimes, the world’s best pizza is whatever slice you’re still chewing — and sometimes it’s slightly more official than that. The renowned pizza rankers at 50 Top Pizza have released their list of the best pizzerias in the United States, and perhaps unsurprisingly, a New York restaurant kept the top spot for the third straight year. 

According to 50 Top Pizza, the best pizzeria in the United States is — once again —Anthony Mangieri’s Una Pizza Napoletana in New York City. The East Village restaurant nabbed last year’s top spot and also earned a second award this year as the pizzeria with the Best Dessert List. Second place went to Tony’s Pizza Napoletana in San Francisco, followed by Philadelphia’s Pizzeria Beddia. Seventeen restaurants in New York City made the list of the 50 best pizzerias, while seven Chicago pizzerias and six in Portland, Oregon were recognized. 

“Grazie [50 Top Pizza] for this beautiful recognition,” Una Pizza Napoletana wrote on Instagram. “We are a small but mighty team, and we do not take for granted the support of our guests and friends all over the world who allow us to keep doing what we love, 29 years in.” 

The top 10 list of best pizzerias in America included: 

1. Una Pizza Napoletana (New York City) 
2. Tony’s Pizza Napoletana (San Francisco)
3. Pizzeria Beddia (Philadelphia)
4. Ribalta (New York City) 
5. Ken’s Artisan Pizza (Portland, Oregon) 
6. Jay’s (Kenmore, New York) 
7. Don Antonio (New York City) 
8. Pizzeria Sei (Los Angeles)
9. La Leggenda (Miami)
10. Robert’s (Chicago)

50 Top Pizza also rated the 50 best pizza slices in the U.S. and a New York joint was awarded the top prize in that category as well. When it comes to pies by the slice, this year’s top 10 were: 

1. L’industrie Pizzeria (New York City) 
2. Slice & Pie (Washington, D.C.) 
3. Taglio (Mineola, New York)
4. Mano’s Pizzeria (New York City) 
5. Miami Slice (Miami) 
6. Palazzo Di Pizza (Royal Oak, Michigan) 
7. Tivoli (Seattle) 
8. Mama’s Boy Pizza (Oakland, California)
9. Jimmy’s Pizza Cafe (Chicago) 
10. L&B Spumoni Gardens (New York City) 

“The American pizza movement is in great ferment, with a new generation of artisans increasingly focused on product quality and ingredients, which has gained strong momentum in the past year, including the introduction of tasting menus by many pizzerias,” the curators of the 50 Top Pizza guide, Barbara Guerra, Luciano Pignataro, and Albert Sapere, said in a joint statement provided to Food & Wine. 

The top 12 restaurants on the list will be entered into the ranking of the 100 Best Pizzerias in the World, which will be revealed in September in Naples, Italy. Last year, Una Pizza Napoletana was ranked No. 3 worldwide, with another 14 U.S. restaurants making the Top 100. 

For now, we’ll just say bravo to all of the pizzerias who made the Top 50 list. And we’ll say grazie mille to the ones that haven’t yet been recognized. We just love pizza.
