As a beauty and travel writer, I can tell you that the hype of French pharmacy brands is very much real. (I can spend hours in those aisles.) But recently, I’ve discovered a cream that challenges these luxurious skincare products I’ve tested over the years — which makes sense, considering that it has French roots.
Provence Beauty’s Bare Lumiere Cream is a 5-in-1 repair and moisture cream that is a multitasking wonder: it hydrates, primes skin for makeup, boosts skin’s glow, improves the skin barrier and supports the skin microbiome (thanks to encapsulated probiotics, which help to replace good bacteria on the skin), and shields the skin from blue light and environmental stressors. It has worked wonders on my face, leaving it feeling so smooth and soft to the touch. What really makes it stand out, however, is its amazing price point — just $25. Provence Beauty, made by a Paris-born and Los Angeles-raised founder who grew up around his family’s business of manufacturing French clay soaps and cosmetics, is known for its solution-oriented under-$25 formulas. The Bare Lumiere Protecting and Perfecting Cream uses a vegan formula with ingredients found in the South of France that improve skin tone, texture, hydration, and radiance. I love how it glides across skin with minimal tugging or pulling, but also isn’t super greasy or slick feeling, perfect for my combination skin. It gives me a lit-from-within glow that is super great without being reflective or shiny. And it doesn’t cause me to break out.
After I apply it, my skin feels super smooth, and it’s helped massively with redness or irritation. Its soothing properties are thanks to ectoin, an amino acid that provides natural stress protection and helps good bacteria live in harsh conditions. What this means is that it reduces visible skin irritation and damage caused by outside factors like free radicals, UV radiation, and pollution — a.k.a. all things that can aggravate your skin and cause it to age. The formula’s aloe vera also helps with redness and boosts hydration. In other words? It’s a skin-saver.

You can wear this under SPF and makeup or all on its own, and I love that it’s slightly grippy to act like a primer. It comes with a metal tube key, a nifty little contraption that helps you get every last bit of product out from the packaging. In a pinch, I’ve also used this on my dry hands and elbows; it’s a great little hydrator for all skin (not just your face). Since its launch in August 2024, it almost instantly became my go-to: I keep one in my bathroom cabinet and one in my carry-on toiletry bag. It helps with space because I don’t have to pack a primer and moisturizer — or really much else for face care. And, you only need about a dime-sized amount for your face, so it lasts a while. This tube is 2 ounces, so it’s TSA-approved for your carry-on bag, too.
With the original low price — and now this low $18 sale — I will definitely buy this Provence Beauty cream again and again.
