Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco Reveal Wedding Food

The past year has been a whirlwind for Selena Gomez. From an Academy Award campaign for Emilia Pérez to filming Only Murders in the Building and releasing a new album with her partner Benny Blanco, the musical artist and actor has plenty of reasons to celebrate — but I’d hazard a guess that none of them tops her recent engagement.

Since Blanco proposed to Gomez in December, the world has eagerly awaited every detail, and the couple has been asked in several interviews if they’ve started planning any part of the wedding yet. Although they’ve made it clear they’re taking time to simply enjoy being engaged, they’ve finally revealed one wedding detail they can confirm for sure — and it involves food.

What will Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco serve at their wedding?

Gomez and Blanco have formed a strong bond over their love of food — Taco Bell was present at the proposal, and Blanco even has his own cookbook — so it should come as no surprise that they already have ideas for what they want to eat on their wedding day.

The dynamic duo recently appeared in an episode of Table Manners with Jessie and Lennie Ware, where they sat down with the podcast’s eponymous hosts to talk about their favorite food memories and preferences. While chatting with the Wares, Blanco revealed that “We haven't figured out anything in our wedding yet. The only thing I've said straight up, as a part of the food, is that I want Jake to do the challah.”

For anyone unfamiliar, challah is a traditional Jewish bread made from enriched dough. Challah has a delicate crumb, a golden brown color, and is usually braided into beautiful loaves. This subtly sweet baked good is often enjoyed on ceremonial occasions, such as weekly Shabbat, major holidays, or weddings, when a blessing over the challah may mark the beginning of the wedding meal.

Benny Blanco has spoken about his Jewish identity on multiple occasions, and whether he wants a traditional blessing over the bread or not, it makes sense that he’d like challah at his wedding. However, he’s also very specific about who has to make it.

Who will make the challah for Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco’s wedding?

As Blanco mentions while talking with the Wares, he wants his friend “Jake” to bake his matrimonial challah. He’s referring to Jake Cohen, who also happens to be a guest on the podcast. Cohen is a New York Times-Bestselling cookbook author of Jew-ish and I Could Nosh, along with the upcoming book Dinner Party Animal. If you can’t tell from the title of his first work, he’s an expert in Jewish cuisine and cooking.

The newly engaged couple recently attended a Passover dinner hosted by Cohen, who posted photos of the star-studded event on Instagram. Blanco emphasizes that Cohen “makes the best challah I’ve ever had,” and Gomez chimes in to say, “That’s a fact.” Luckily, you can find his recipe for the bread in the chef's first cookbook.

What else will be served at the wedding?

Although he doesn’t claim that these dishes will definitely be served at the wedding, Blanco does highlight a few foods he feels confident would be part of his fiancé’s ultimate meal, or “last supper.” First and foremost is corn casserole, a rich, sweet, and savory dish that many Southerners may recognize. Gomez mentions that her family is “big on casseroles” and that this version “has a little bit of sweet cornbread and little pieces of the corn.” In fact, the singer loves corn so much she jokes that the food at her wedding is “just going to be corn.”

The other item that Selena Gomez says must be part of her last supper? A batch of fried rice from Benihana, the hibachi chain beloved for cooking its meals right in front of you. We’re not sure we’ll be able to snag an invite, but if a wedding serves corn, fried rice, and challah, we’d certainly be interested in attending.
