- Spin Master Toys UK (OTCPK:SNMSF), the owner of the Rubik’s Cube, lost its legal battle against a Greek competitor on Wednesday, as Europe’s second-highest court overturned trademarks tied to the iconic puzzle’s shape.
- The Luxembourg-based court annulled several shape-related trademarks held by the Canadian toy giant.
- The court determined that the cube’s essential characteristics are necessary to achieve a technical result and hence, should not have been registered as a trademark.
