The viewers at a Manhattan anti-crime summit burst into applause Thursday when a high police official pushed again towards a state lawmaker who defended New York’s controversial bail reform regulation and accused cops of not making sufficient arrests.
NYPD Chief of Division Jeffrey Maddrey appeared upset when Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz (D-The Bronx) alleged that many cops “have the perspective” that bail reform would put anybody they busted proper again on the streets.
“It’s actually not their name to resolve whether or not any individual needs to be arrested as a result of they’re going to be set free. That’s as much as others to make these determinations,” he added.
When given an opportunity to fireside again, Maddrey pointed to statistics about repeat offenders cited earlier by the moderator of their Manhattan Chamber of Commerce panel dialogue.
“Respectfully, assemblyman…there wouldn’t be repeat offenders if the officers weren’t continuously arresting them,” Maddrey mentioned to applause.
